In his final preparation for the Hawaii Ironman World championships on October 10, Chris McCormack has added two final events to his racing calander in a final tweak to his road to Kona 2009. In what has been a remarkable season, Macca confirmed from his base in Sydney Australia, that these two races presented perfectly and would give him the final hitout prior to his big race in Kona three weeks later.

After what's already been an amazing European Campaign with Half Ironman victories in both France and Austria, Macca set his sites on one last race leading up to his Title defense of the Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt Germany to be held on July 5th.  What looked to be a great day had a few twists and turns that only the unflappable Aussie could have handled before the day unfolded completely.
 

In 2005, Chris “Macca” McCormack could look back on a strong triathlon career filled with victories and some dominating performances, but he had yet to achieve his loftiest and most important goal: conquering the Kona Ironman World Championship.

In an event with over 1,500 athletes from all over Europe and from every continent in the World, McCormack dominated yet again, smashing the course record on June 7th at the Half-Iron distance, ‘Triathlon Challenge France’.

While McCormack's victory at Ironman 70.3 Austria comes as no surprise, no one could have known what was in store for the Aussie. McCormack crossed the finish line just three seconds before Belgium's Marino Vanhoenacker who was 5th at Ironman Hawaii in 2007 when McCormack claimed the World Title and won Ironman South Africa early this year.
