Without question the toughest conditions I have ever faced in triathlon. By the time we hit the run it was a matter of just making it to the finish line without dying. It was so hot. People who were at this race will talk about this event forever. It was amazing and you took as much fluid in as you can. By the run I had established a solid lead, but the real concern of not making it to the finish line because of the conditions was real.

Exiting the swim in Ironman 70.3 China. The air temperature was more than 115 degrees (45C) and humidity well over 80 percent. It was incredible. The swim was in a river with a tough current to navigate through. Here I exit the water in 3rd place behind Luke MacKenzie and Paul Matthews of Australia. This is the beginning of a tough bike, run section in couldron like conditions.

I had a very hectic early season race schedule with 3 heavy races in 3 weeks, from Singapore to Hawaii and then on to New Orleans. I flew home to Australia and had two weeks at home before flying up to China for my 3rd Ironman 70.3 race in a month. It also happened to be the hottest triathlon race day of my career. This photo is the start of the swim and a very hard day at the office. A win I am happy with considering how tough the day was.

Pushing to the finish line at Ironman 70.3 New Orleans. After a devastating bike that gave me a 6 minute lead, I succombed the win with just over 1 mile to run. I was hurting.

On the run is where I struggled in New Orleans. I think it was a build up of three heavy weeks on the road with a lot of travel. I managed to tough it out and hang on for second, but it was a tough day at the office thats for sure.

Another tough hot race for 2009. After three weeks on the road, it was a very hard day. I was in Singapore racing, then the following week in Hawaii and for my third race for the year in as many weeks, i landed in New Orleans. It was a very tough Ironman 70.3 event for me and after a great swim bike, I really struggled with a solid run.

Coming down the finish shoot at the 2009 Ironman 70.3 event in Singapore. My first race for 2009 and a hot, tough event.

This is the finish photo of my first race for 2009. Ironman 70.3 in Singapore. a hot day and a solid 2nd place finish. For my first race of the year, it was a great result.

Emma and I have been together now for 10 years. We met in 1999, and have been pretty much inseperable ever since. Emma is an amazing woman, and is my complete balance. She has an amazing temperment and is an amazing mother and partner. My entire career I have shared with her, and she has been through all the highs and lows. she protects our family from a lot of the crap that can come our way, and I cannot say enough about how strong a woman she is. My life partner. I love this photo. It was taken in March of 2009 when we were together in LA for a week without the children. We both dont look so tired.

Talking boxing is probably one of my favourite past times. I love the sport, the complexity of the planning, the egos and everything about the great champions. i go to as many fights in Las Vegas as I possibly can. Talking with Ray about fights is a buzz as he lived it.

sometimes it amazes me how incredible it is to live in the USA. Ray Mancini was a fighter I followed as a boy and a huge hero of mine. One of the greatest fighters of his generation and an incredible inspiration. He is now a boxing commentator. He is a multiple World champion and his fight against Alexis Auguello is one worth watching. Hanging out with Ray is always a buzz and chatting about old fights and fears something I really enjoy.

After years living in the USA, my family and I have really migrated north from San Diego and made our home in LA. We have such a great group of friends in LA and this is a photo of a few of them here. Actually in this photo is Ray Mancini, the World Champion boxer, Pat Abe, Gina and Bernhard from Trifit, and our coffee group. LA is really our home away from home and this photo is a good one.

Paul Amey is a guy i met in my first year on the circuit and over the past 13 years has become one of my closest friends. Paul is a 3 time duathlon world champion and won a silver medal at the ITU World championships in Switzerland in 1998. A great athlete and training partner and a good mate. We have had some great laughs over the years. Tait Brannock is the guy to our left and a childhood friend from Australia. This is a photo taken in 2008 in Las Vegas at the end of the season. Tait as always was a serial pest but a lot of fun, and Paul was a bunch of fun.

The girls - Darcie Fairchild, Maryjo Murphy, Irene Oseland and Emma Jane McCormack hanging out in Las Vegas.

Some of my closest friends in the USA reside in Las Vegas and we spend a lot of time in Nevada over the past few years. Here the crew of guys hang out at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas. This in the nightclub Tryst in November of 2008 at the end of my racing season. From left to right, Myself, Danny Murphy, Scott Fairchild and Rob Oseland. Great crew of guys and good friends!
Probably the best thing to ever happen in my career was aligning with sports Giant Under Armour in the summer of 2005. Kevin Plank, the president of the company, and myself met by chance in 2004 and forged a relationship that has carried me to many victoires. Under Armour is a driven company that I am blessed to be associated with.
The three most important girls in my life are my wife Emma jane and my two girls Tahlia and Sienna. Now that my girls are old enough to understand what their father does, nothing is a bigger buzz than seeing them yelling for me in support. Here Tahlia carries her sign at the 2007 Ironman World Championships. It says it all!

Crossing the finish line at the Ironman 70.3 race in Monaco. The finish sits just below the Casino with an incredible backdrop. If you dont like hills, then dont come to this race. Unbelievable.

Running for my life at the Ironman 70.3 race in Monaco. Without question one of the greatest backdrops for a triathlon in the world, and to run on the F1 course is a real buzz. A tough event but well worth the trip.
The Specialized Angel is an attraction at many of the cycling events around the world and in particular the Tour of California. Laura Del Pino is the angels name and a lovely girl. here we hang out beofre stage 3 of the Tour of California in 2008. She has a busy day ahead. I get to watch the race from the cars.
