Chris McCormack along with BPM Sports and Andrew Tierney from Fitness First Singapore have put together a 90 minute spin class, followed by a 45 minute Question and answer session at Fitness First in Singapore on March 16, 2010.
After spending some time in Singapore a few weeks ago, Macca linked up with Andrew Tierney, and along with BPMSports were looking at ways to raise money for the two charities that Macca is aligned with. MaccaNow is the foundation set up by Chris McCormack that aims to donate 1 962 800 dollars to Breast Cancer and its affiliated charities by 2015. Since beginning in 2008, the foundation has raised more than 200 000 dollars for Cancer, through the help of a variety of different challenges and charities. The Talbert Family Foundation was one such charity that has helped in a huge way.
"After speaking with Andrew Tierney and Nicole Gallagher, we came up with the idea of putting together a spin class available to everyone at Fitness First with myself. We would sell each of the bikes for 100 dollars minimum for the evening, and corporates can jump aboard and pay a little extra if need be. Fitness First came to the party and agreed to match dollar for dollar everything we made and the night was set. The evening is set to be a blast and the bikes are already being sold off very quickly. Two companies have already paid 1000 dollars per bike and we have 56 bikes to sell. The support has been enormous. Fitness is really booming in Singapore, and it was a great way to marry this lifestyle with a great cause."
Macca will fly into Singapore from China where he will be racing Ironman China on March 14. Along with his family, he will spend 7 days in Singapore and will race in a team event at the Singapore Ironman 70.3 race again to raise awareness and support for his MaccaNow foundation. On his last visit to Singapore, along with Challenged Athletes Foundation heavy weight, Bobby Bostic, just on 5000 dollar was raised for the CAF athletes with a gala night at the Anza cycling club. The aim is to make this next trip to the Island even bigger again and push to raise money for The Breast Cancer Foundation of Singapore in a "Spin for Life, 90 minute spin session at Fitness First.
"I lost my mother to breast cancer in 1999, at the age of 53. I set myself the challenge of raising this amount to celebrate my mother life. 1 962 800 dollars represents 100 dollars for every day my mother was alive and I will achieve this goal. I now have two daughters and along with my wife am surrounded by women. Breast Cancer is a disease that is fought primarily by women, but as men it takes our mothers, sisters, daughters and wives, and as a man I will do as much as I can to help fight and support the women who are fighting this disease. My mother was taken in the prime of her life, and left behind a family of 3 boys and her husband. The disease took everything from us."
